Choreography by KATHRYN ROSZAK
for the 75th anniversary of the Golden Gate Bridge
Lissa and Eric Resnick perform a true story in "BridgeDance"
Danse Lumière was honored to be selected as an official participant - one of 75 "Tributes" - for the Golden Gate Bridge 75th Anniversary Festival, held at Crissy Field on May 27, 2012.
Kathryn Roszak created "BridgeDance" for the occasion, and "bridging" is the work's theme, with additional inspiration from oral histories of the bridge.
With the span as backdrop, students from our Children's Dance Program joined company dancers from Danse Lumière to perform the new work, set to a soundtrack that included classic West Coast jazz. There were also outdoor preview performances during the preceding week at Union Square Live in downtown San Francisco.
It was an unforgettable, once-in-a-lifetime experience for all involved.

Subject: A wonderful memorable day
Date: Mon, 28 May 2012
I want to thank you so much for creating the opportunity for M-- to dance with her peers and professionals on a special day in San Francisco history. Everyone in our family will remember this day for the rest of our lives. I can't remember any Memorial Day weekend in my life that surpasses this experience. It was wonderful to see our daughter, of course, but it was also great to attend the Golden Gate Bridge 75th Anniversary. But for the BridgeDance, I doubt that we would have ventured into the city. So again, thank you.
Speaking as a parent in the audience... what occurred on stage exceeded my expectations. Seeing the bridge behind the dances was incredible. The youth troop danced their best and nailed their positions in the final dance, revealing the majesty of your choreography. It was great Kathryn, a triumphant accomplishment for your dance company, and a testimonial to your effectiveness as a teacher and choreographer.
